Lokoja—Police in Kogi State, yesterday, said it recovered some guns and bullets from some criminal terrorizing the state following a gun battle.

State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya who spoke in Lokoja said the war against criminal elements in the state was yielding positive result.

He said the wounded criminals were apprehended along Obajana road, in the western senatorial district of the state.

According to him, “In continuation of the ongoing onslaught against banditry, kidnapping and other heinous crimes in Kogi State, the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, attached to Obajana Division in collaboration with the Fulani vigilantes acting on a tip-off received a call on 27/05/2024 at 11.30a.m., that some armed hoodlums numbering about three were sighted inside Ankumi forest.

“Immediately the DPO, Oguche Richard mobilised his patrol team along with the Fulani Vigilantes moved to the area at 14.30p.m.

“On sighting the team, the hoodlums opened fire on them, while the team responded. Due to the superior firepower of the Police team, two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while the other escaped with bullet wounds.

“Items recovered from the scene includes one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and two rounds of live ammunition. Effort is on going to trail and apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
